Sustainable Hoodie Care
Caring for your clothing does not have to be challenging or harmful to the environment.
Clothing on average lasts 2-3 years with normal wear. So how do we help our products last longer and help the environment?
Below are some tips to help your hoodie last longer while also doing mother nature a solid:
Washing
Wash your Hoodie inside out on Eco/Cold Water setting (30 degrees celsius) or hand wash. Washing your hoodie in cold water helps to prevent fading, shrinkage, or damage to the film or embroidery designs on the outside. The cold water also helps to preserve the integrity of recycled polyester.
*Also reduces energy consumption
Look for signs of Wear
Does your hoodie show signs of staining, ripping, color fading?
Donate it back to us (Email us at Customerservice@esottera.com) so we may recycle it for you or drop it off at your local community clothing drop off station.
Use Eco-friendly Detergent
Opt for biodegradable, plant-based detergents without fragrances and harsh chemicals. Opt out of fabric softeners (Vinegar is a natural alternative), as they reduce fabric breathability.
Wash Hoodie Less Frequently
Only wash your hoodie when necessary. Air your hoodie out or spot clean minor stains to reduces wash cycles.
Wash with Similar Fabrics
Wash your hoodie with similar fabrics to avoid pilling or damage. Mixing heavier fabrics with lighter fabrics can cause friction and reduce the lifespan of the hoodie.
Use a Microfiber Filter or Bag
Our hoodies do contain 15% recycled plastic...we wanted to include this step just in case there was potential for microplastics to shed during the wash cycle. Use of microfiber-catching bags can reduce chances of shed microplastic filtering into water system. Another option is to purchase a washing machine filter to filter out the shedding particles.
Drying
We highly recommend air drying whenever possible to extend the lifespan of your hoodie product. Lay the hoodie flat on a drying rack until Hoodie is no longer damp. Avoid direct sunlight when air drying your hoodie as it may lead to color fade and degradation of the fabric over time.
Use Low-Heat Dryer Setting
When a dryer must be used, we suggest using the low-heat or tumble-dry setting. Excessive heat can cause shrinkage and damage to the organic cotton and recycled polyester materials the hoodie is composed of.
Remove from Dryer While Damp
A little bit of compromise can go a long way... removing your hoodie from the dryer while it is still slightly damp and flat drying it on a rack reduces energy consumption and preserves the fabrics integrity.
Eco-Friendly Stain Removers
We recommend using natural stain removers such as baking soda or vinegar.
Minimize Ironing
Organic Cotton can be prone to wrinkling but try to avoid ironing to conserve energy. Try using the low setting while the hoodie is still slightly damp. When ironing your hoodie you must iron it inside out to preserve the film-printed or embroidered design.
